Come and rediscover that reason, and come party with us as well. Every second friday of the month.

Get ready for fun this holiday season, in this Captivate Creative Studios x DressHead Long Sleeve Dress – Mesh and Floral Lace Overlay Top. It features long sleeves, and a high, round neckline. This dress has a moderate fit through the bodice, which grows roomer as it reaches the hemline, for a figure-flattering A-line style. While leaving plenty of room to move around, this style respects the integrity of the female form and is flattering on most body types. The hemline ends about 6” above the knee. This dress slips on and off over the head. It was constructed from some of our finest cotton-acrylic blend fabric, and has whimsical cartoon characters of reindeer, Santa and snowmen printed against a classic black background. Try this Captivate Creative Studios x DressHead Long Sleeve Dress – Mesh and Floral Lace Overlay Top with black tights and ballet slippers for a wonderful style that will make you a hit at any casual holiday party.
This was one for the books. The Ottawa Craft Spirit Society threw a stellar tasting party at Maker Space North, featuring a tremendous amount of small batch liquor from all over the world, including several in our region. Music was provided by Ottawa’s finest, DJ Dusty. Photographed by Alexander Vlad.
Was going through some photos from 2013 and am bringing them up to date.

Trying to continue this trend of photographs from warmer weather, here’s a strobist portrait of Ottawa DJ/producer Michael Wayne. Two speedlites bracketed together on Mike’s right, each on 1/2 power and another on his left also at 1/2, triggered with Pocket Wizards. Due to silly lack of an ND filter in the kit at the time, it was shot at f20, 1/160. Photographed by Alexander Vlad with assistance from Alex Brazeau.
I lit and shot this portrait of a gypsy accordionist during a music video shoot close to Rupea in Transylvania. His traditional band was starring in a music video for Ottawa rock outfit The Wicked Mercy. More news on the production later this month, but it was hands down the most fun I’ve ever had shooting anything, ever.
Here’s a few shots of some of our favourite Toronto friends, Tynan Tragic and Jonny Rockwell from Canadian rap duo Philly Moves. Shot by Alexander Vlad in Toronto, summer 2014.
For this shoot we used plenty of red and blue gels (sometimes overlapping to make purple) on a variety of strobes. I wanted to have an outrageous amount of coloured light and I wanted to play with motion in a way that mirrored the energetic and colourful nature of the model.
Since my camera cannot do double exposures, I shot the majority of these images using longer shutter speeds and froze the subject multiple times in one exposure by having an assistant manually trigger the flash several times, while coordinating with the movements of the model.
The end result is both technically and creatively satisfying and a unique representation of our model.
This portrait was taken during the early morning bustle of a Transylvanian wedding in September 2014. The subject is the mother of one of the village musicians that was playing at the wedding, and also knew the groom since he was a small child. I plan on returning to Romania in May of 2015 to shoot another wedding. The subject matter is always so rich and authentic in rural Eastern Europe.
Shooting Glowfair 2014 was such an awesome experience. In addition to working with some of my favourite production creatives, the event itself was a giant success and filled with vibrant performers. Here are some shots of some of the cyber-circus performers during Hex Hector’s Bank Street DJ Set, which later turned into a several thousand strong silent disco after free headphones were distributed for the entire audience. Mark Glowfair 2015 into your calenders if you are in the Ottawa region in July!
Otherwise known as That Time I Shot Sean Paul In The Rain. Photographed at the 26th annual Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival in 2013 in less than ideal weather. You can blame the last night of 2014 as to why I’m starting 2015 with a two year old photo of Sean Paul in the summer. The show also had Massari and Mia Martina as support.
Here is a set of photos from December’s edition of Frenzy, featuring Sweater Beats from NYC. Shot by Alexander Vlad, the event went down at Babylon Nightclub in Ottawa on Decemeber 5th, 2014.
